Dear Friends,
The community at Violet Crown City Church tries its best not to be partisan when it comes to politics. We do, however, seek to reflect the politics of Jesus, believing that he was always on the side of the poor, the oppressed, the marginalized, and those working for a more just world. Therefore, in the wake of the recent election results, we find ourselves heartbroken and hurting for those in our nation who will likely be most harmed by the new administration’s policies: immigrants, refugees, women, our transgender siblings, and those in certain socio-economic classes. That statement is not a partisan one; they are clearly communicated policy goals of the Republican party.
If, as a result of the election, you are feeling distraught, angry, anxious, or overwhelmed, we see you. Although many churches have openly sided with Trump and the Republican Party, we side with you. It will always be our desire to love not only our neighbor but our enemy as well, yet in a time such as this we believe that our call from God is to tend to the hurting and the hopeless. If that includes you, and you are looking for a safe place to process your feelings, wrestle with your faith, work for justice, and find the love and support of a community, then you will find a home with us.
Our community is fond of saying, “All shall be well.” We don’t say those words with empty optimism, we proclaim them with a stubborn and defiant hope. May they become your words on this day as well. Peace be with you.
